Description:

Today’s world is increasingly more connected from your desktop computer to the vehicle you drive. All of these digital connections in our professional and personal lives impacts us in more ways than we can imagine. From a fraud investigations standpoint, a fraudster could be sitting in the desk next to you or half-way around the world. But one thing is for certain every user interaction with a digital device leaves behind digital breadcrumbs. A user copying a file from a desktop computer to USB logs a timestamp when that USB was plugged-in and what files were accessed. A user deleting incriminating communications on their cloud-synced laptop doesn’t mean the communications are deleted from the cloud. A user that filed an insurance claim alleging they can’t move from work-related injuries is constantly logging their steps in a health database via the smartphone in their pocket. This presentation introduces the participant to the increasing volume of digital evidence that exists, how digital forensics can be used to find out what’s going on, and allow fraud investigators to effectively and efficiently investigate fraud.
